TR-35 operation so far

Final contest write-up with TR-35 is here.

Full review of the TR-35 is here

.

With the TR-35 still an infant, built only days ago, I introduced her into the harsh environment of QRO DX contesters.

"But I'm not a contest rig!"

"You'll do fine", I assured her.

 And she did.

Ignoring the Hardrock-50, off we went - barefoot into the ether, to frolic in the ARRL International DX Contest. Two hours later, with a dipole serving as the rig-to-ionosphere interface, 30 DXCC entities were in the log. Mostly on 40m. On battery power. Only 600mAH consumed.

Later this afternoon (Saturday, 19 Feb), we'll go a'POTA'ing to K-4417 Sam Houston National Forest (TX). And again tomorrow morning to the same place. Exact frequencies, in real-time, will appear here.

Due to the CW contest, I'll be concentrating on 17 and 30 meters. When on 20m, I'll be up above 14.100 MHz as most of the other CW POTA ops are now.

To those who've asked, a full write-up on this rig is on the way. I've taken notes of the build, the performance, operation and various measurements and will compile them into a posting, probably Monday.

.

More postings on the TR-35.

  2. Hi John,
Nice looking rig and it has my 4 favorite bands. I'l take buttons and knobs any day.
Question... Does the keyer have memories? That would be nice for POTA.

    1. Good morning Paul,

No, unfortunately not. My IC-705 has spoiled me a bit in terms of keyer memories for POTA and I'm looking at something from Whiterook or WB9KZY's line of kits to use with the TR-35:

I guess WA3RNC had to draw the line at some point to allow the rig's functionality to fit onto the available front panel space without resorting to menus.

      John
