POTA Activation & Photography: The Musical

Photography, mostly. The FT-891 used to activate K-0008 (Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park in Colorado) was installed in the car - a situation that doesn't really lend itself to video.

At any rate, here is the long road trip to that park along with some photography on the way.

I'd recently taken advantage of Nikon's generous (IMO) trade-in program, swapping my Z6 for a Z7 II and wanted to point its optics at something besides the Galveston surf. We stayed in Ouray for the first week of October - a beautiful time to be in Colorado.

The POTA activation went well. My goal was simply to make the 10 contacts required for it to count as an activation but many callers wanted the park and I was happy to deliver. 20m only, phone and CW.

  2. What a superb and relaxing video John. It combines several of your hobbies in a beautiful way. Didn't work you this time, but we have worked in the past and I'm always on the lookout for AE5X for POTA. Be well, be safe.

    1. Thanks George - I'm now back in less beautiful surroundings but planning an activation soon.
