I think this would appeal to POTA and other outdoor ops who'd like a minimalist package for digi modes. They seem to make up a large percentage of POTA stations on the air at any given time.
Yes, I expect more radios will come with build in WSJT support. At least....my IC-7300 does RTTY all from the radio so why not FT8...Probabely the screen is a bit small, but there is a solution for everything. 73, Bas
Not yet. Waiting for things to calm down, so I'm not dealing with a half-baked project. I started with a uBitx v3.0/4.0 and finally got a v6.0 before it matured to the point of being useful on the air, without having to fix things like spurious outputs, etc.
I understand (believe me!). There will soon (late Jan/early Feb) be a dual-band (20/40m) SSB transceiver kit for sale at an economical price from that part of the world. Buy now or wait? That is the question...
Not really surprising. After all SDRs are actually radios running on computers. So, why not run computer software other than the SDR on the same set of chips?

In theory the sBitx does this, as well. Starting to see more and more radios moving in this direction.
