Wayne N6KR reported on 1 Feb that Elecraft's long-awaited internal battery charger for the KX2 has been successfully evaluated by 25 field testers and that Elecraft will begin taking orders soon.
The manual and instructions (1.2MB pdf) for adding this new option to the KX2 appeared online today.
No word yet on the price.

The cost for the charger....my guess is in around 300.00. What say you?

Wow, that would be a shocker! I'm thinking $50 or so. A mic is $80, the built-in ATU is $200 and the external battery charger is $40. We'll know soon...

I've been following this with interest.
ReplyDeleteI suspect the price might be closer to the $100 mark +/- $20 since this board also replaces the KXIO2 option module and retains its RTC function. That KXIO2 option costs $80 as-is.
I'm hoping the FX-4CR reduces my KX2 fever (at half the price) - if it'll ever get here...The slow boat from China must be sailing into a stiff headwind.

Gee - I've been charging my KX2 internal battery with an external charger for years after soldering in a diode from the external power port to in the internal battery connector. Diode came from my junk box. Love my KX2 but I don't drink the Elecraft Kool-aide.

The 25-cent solution, love it!
DeleteTo those reading, who may not see the distinction: to do this, use an external charger for lithium batteries (as mentioned) - not any external power supply that you might otherwise use to power your KX2.
I miss my old KX2 and consider buying one from time to time to replace it. If I do, the KX3DX mod will be implemented post haste!
